Process, Requirements & Compliance Guide

To send messages via the Transactional SMS Nigeria route, all clients are required to complete the Nigerian transactional SMS sender ID registration process. This ensures your Sender ID is officially recognized and whitelisted by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the four major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs): MTN, GLO, AIRTEL, and 9MOBILE.

At X-Wireless, we make it simple to register your custom alphanumeric sender ID with all the Nigeria networks by managing the entire process on your behalf—free of charge.

Why Sender ID Registration Is Required

Sender ID registration is a regulatory requirement in Nigeria, designed to prevent SMS fraud, protect end users, and ensure message delivery to DND-registered numbers. Without completing this registration, you will not be granted access to the Nigeria transactional SMS route.

This process ensures full compliance with all NCC and MNO sender ID regulations in Nigeria and authorises your brand name (e.g., YOURBANK, XYZSTORE) for use on the Nigeria transactional SMS route.

Required Documents for Sender ID Registration

To proceed with your Nigerian transactional SMS sender ID registration, the following documents are mandatory and must be submitted:

  1. Authorization Letters for Each Mobile Operator
You are required to submit four signed letters—one each addressed to MTN, GLO, AIRTEL, and 9MOBILE.
    • Letters must be on your official company letterhead
    • Must clearly state your requested alphanumeric Sender ID
    • Must be signed by an authorized company representative
  2. CAC Certificate
A valid copy of your company’s registration certificate from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
  3. Official Website URL
The website address associated with your Sender ID and business. This provides traceability and confirms brand legitimacy.
  4. Regulatory Operating License
For companies in regulated sectors such as finance, insurance, pensions, or gaming, you must submit a valid license issued by any of the following:
    • Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)
    • Pension Commission (PENCOM)
    • National Insurance Commission (NAICOM)
    • National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC)
This license is a mandatory requirement for Sender ID approval on AIRTEL and MTN networks.
  5. GLO-Specific Requirement
For GLO, your authorization letter must also include:
    • Your company’s registered business address
    • Your official company phone number
  6. 9Mobile-Specific Requirement
For 9Mobile, you must include the requested Sender ID inside the sample message content within the authorization letter.
    • Any sender ID not explicitly shown in the sample message will be rejected by 9Mobile and not whitelisted.
